Flagstaff

The best part of Northern Arizona is that there aren't a lot of cities and communities. Mostly it's national forest and Indian reservation. Of course, this makes for some spectacular country viewing and photography among other things.

Still we are not without people and on this page we'll try to give you a sense of where the Northern Arizona indigenous tend to congregate. And maybe even why.

Behind the Camera at Flgnews.com

Here is a local Flagstaff effort that has been going on for over a year. I found myself behind the scenes at their first anniversary show.

The show is something of a magic act except they use mixing boards, cameras and green screens instead of smoke and mirrors. It has a lot of character because their are a lot of characters associated with this effort.

For some real entertainment, stop in and watch them film it when you're here. It's done every Friday at noon ( more or less) at the Weatherford hotel in downtown Flagstaff.

Be sure to visit their website . You could have hours of fun in their archives. And look in on the Voluntary Sting Band too. They are part of Flagstaffs' rather large folk music scene.

This is Flagstaff from a truck drivers perspective. He starts off going east on route 66 but then turns off on Butler Avenue. He doesn't actually go through the main part of town.

I always wanted to be a truck driver. It's probably a lot of fun for maybe about.....2 days.

Here is a future anchor women in the making doing a push for one of our local businesses. Bookmans, by the way, often has worthy entertainment for free. Usually Friday night or Saturday afternoon is your best bet for that. If they had a local website I would link them.

This video is part of a local news and entertainment effort called flgnews.com. You can have some fun snooping around there.

Contra Dance - Rollin' and Tumblin'

Contra dancing is actually pretty big through out the state. It's a lot of fun to do and you don't really have to know anything but how to follow instructions as all dances are walked through several times first then the caller, calls out the moves till you get the hang of it.

The Flagstaff contra dance is usually on the first Saturday of the month at magnificent Ashurst Hall at NAU.

This one was apparently shot in Prescott.

You can get contra dance information for all over the state and more at the Flagstaff Friends of Traditional Music
